Together they have two children. Early twenties I guess. And I wanted to come home, and I ended up getting a job at Channel 5, and initially, my job at Channel 5 was producing the news four days a week and then reporting one day a week. And then, within about a year and a half, I was anchoring the evening newscast.
It sorta just worked out that way. Well, so, you have to know this. For Minneapolis-Saint Paul, that, that media market, where does that rank, uh, in relation to the rest of the nation?
You know… Although I will say this. The industry is changing. I know you talk to a lot of business leaders. So at the time we had, maybe some of your listeners remember Cyndy Brucado-. She left, and then she came back as we were in a bit of a transition phase. And basically we needed people. So Cyndy was doing everything by herself.
They needed someone to help out. But they also needed people on the weekend. So I thought I was auditioning for the weekend job. We do the weekends. Um, but yes, but life changes, so I started doing it when I was By my mid 30s, I was married. I had children. And it took a long time to figure out, and I, I worked for the Hubbard family.

I got to go to after-school activities, um, you know, participate in, in the sporting events-. You know, I think part of the reason you and I are talking is I, I put a Facebook post out there that I- a lot of people read-. And my marriage ended. And it was devastating, but making that work change, I think, really helped a lot of these other things be a little easier to handle.

Like that opportunity never comes again. I had so many of those thoughts. I was worried, like what if I- am I gonna miss it? Is it gonna be weird seeing someone else do it? Am I gonna be jealous? Am I gonna-. Am I gonna miss… There was a news anchor in town who worked at a different station who retired, and I remember hearing him say how much he was gonna miss being on TV and having people recognize him.
And I gotta be honest, I really, truly am fine with it. And I kind of wondered that about myself ahead of time. You know? And even if I stay in my lesser position for the rest of my career, which frankly would be great for me-. I was thinking about social media. And I do very… I was gonna say very little. I do no personal Facebook, actually. I post things on my professional page.
Some people I know who I guess… whatever. We have to have a presence. Help me pick a tie today. In part because I feel like it is their lives, and at some point in time, I want them to make the choice about what their own social media presence is. My family and my personal life is generally personal. Which is why, when I made reference to posting something about my divorce, I wrote a thing, about three years ago today-.
