NetApp runs on open source. He's very opposed to that. Well, you made a statement that AD doesn't work but provided no examples. Why it works for everyone else and not you, and instead of asking for help with AD you made a post lambasting it and demanding that you move to something else - but took the time to make a ridiculous claim that AD doesn't work, obviously people are afronted and feel that this is a fake post that you made just to market Windows products.

This isn't a good way to post. You could have just said you have a requirement for a WSS based NAS why would you want this, though, just install Windows but you didn't, you took the time to make a claim we have to assume is false. We are all wondering what part of AD did not work.

That you've not produced anything, we have to assume the claim and therefore this request is false. Loads of people that don't understand what AD is claim this, but when asked what didn't work, it turns out wasn't AD at all and that the real issue was that they didn't understand Windows systems and services and had made up all kinds of things that they thought AD did and then claimed that AD didn't work when AD worked just fine.

So there is no way you should show any surprise that people are questioning you based on what you post. You posted an infamatory post without backing it up. You guaranteed that the response would be to discredit your assumed false statements. This is where you go off the rails. You have yet to integrate them properly or can't figure AD out is not the same as them not doing it. You've been on this community for years, but have no posts asking about getting your NAS working here.

Yet you pop on here to ask for help finding a WIndows replacement product? Obviously we have to make assumptions here. It's important enough to get help when it publicizes taht Linux doesn't work "for you" and to promote Windows, but to take the effort to show that Linux does work in your environment to save your company money you didn't bother to do, even though quite obviously you should have known that tons of people here have it working and would likely have fixed it for you very quickly.

Claiming that they don't integrate when obviously they do, what are you expecting here? If you think that this makes the products look bad, when you've not asked anyone to review your setup or issues, but then make a statement like this it does not.

Doing any direct access to the SharePoint database is unsorted and considered bad practice. Even if its very unlikely, an update to SharePoint could possibly remove your tables. Josh pretty much has the answer. As for the "how many documents and lists and whatevers" question, the answer is "as many as you want so long as you don't slam into the 4gb limit. I'd also note that if you start getting near that 4gb limit, you can always upgrade to full-blown SQL server with very minimal pain so it is a decent place to start. The real place it falls down is management tools ie--backup , but you can script that from the command line pretty effectively.
