When is bioshock the movie coming out
Even the MCU was a pupa of the absolute monster it is now. Verbinksi mentions Zack Snyder's Watchmen, which was effectively the industry litmus test at the time for big-budget R-rated "nerd culture" movies. It had barely broken even, likely actually losing money after marketing and distribution, so the likelihood of a studio taking another massive risk on an even less stable genre was never likely.
However, that was a different time. BioShock has remained an iconic property, with a new game coming at some point in the relatively near future. It's also a better time for potentially risky R-rated movies, thanks to the industry ceilings broken by superhero and video game movies in the last ten years or so. Verbinski has said before that he'd be willing to take another crack at it, so maybe there's room in the cultural lexicon for a BioShock movie to come out just in time for the new game.

Some production staff were let go, and the challenge was on for Verbinski to retool the movie as a more economic project. One option was to relocate production outside of the US to take advantage of overseas tax credits, and at this stage, Verbinski — who had turned down Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 to make the movie — was committed to making it happen.
There was a lot of money that needed saving. But by August of , four months after Universal had applied the brakes, Verbinski was gone. He agreed to stay on board as producer, as 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo entered talks to replace him as director. That, combined with the budget concerns, and the continued pressure to push for a PG rating, led to a decision. Levine was asked by Universal if he wanted to press stop on the project, and he took that option up.
The Bioshock movie was dead. So, fair enough. But it was glorious waste of time because I tried to be super clear, just absolutely honest, it's R-rated That was even before, we're walking in with a, we've talked to the video game company.
We've talked to [game director Ken] Levine, we're ready to go. Do you want to make it? I just said it, there was silence in the room full of 30 executives, marketing departments, everybody. Really tried to do this, so don't waste everybody's time if you're not going to make it. It's Oedipus.
It's got a great narrative flow. It's got a sort of untrustworthy narrator. It's got, at its core Again, that was one that I went to John Logan with, and he really responded to the dramaturgical aspect of the story. So, we spent a lot of time adapting the script. Obviously, the big plane crash was a huge set piece, the entry into that world. There was a lot of story boarding, a lot of pre-vis.
There was playing with how to have both endings. I don't know if you're familiar with the game but dissecting that feint to the happy ending. And then, still having the unleashed version of the ending. We were trying to achieve that, which was really exciting. Where if you watch the movie, you could get both. The set piece thing to me I don't like generic action if there's not story through line.
